Fallen Warriors

Robert L. (Bronco) Lane - Class Of 1968 VIEW PROFILE

Robert Lee Lane passed from this earth into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, February 1, 2024 in Greenville, SC. Born in Jacksonville, FL in May 1948, to the late Jack Lee Lane and Catherine (Burke) Pushard, he grew up in Phoebus, VA, attending Kecoughtan High School. Robert is survived by his wife of 29 years, Anita, son Richard, his dear sister Shirley Medeiros and niece/goddaughter Corbie (Bobby) Eckel.

Robert enlisted in the Marine Corps at the height of the Vietnam War with 3 friends, one being his closest friend, Steve Nelson. During his 13-month tour in Vietnam, Lance Corporal Lane was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for heroic achievement on 17 February 1969, while serving as an Intelligence Scout in Lima Company, Third Battalion, Ninth Marines, Third Marine Division. Robert obtained the rank of Corporal prior to his honorable discharge on 12 December 1973.

Returning home to the US, Robert was employed for 34 years with US Airways, formerly Pacific Southwest Airlines. After retiring, he worked for 14 years at Greenville County Parks and Recreation.

Robert loved all animals. He fed stray cats and dogs wherever he found them and tried to keep them safe from harm. He rescued many and made sure they found their forever home. Even the neighborhood animals and critters around the yard were well-cared for and fed.

Robert had a “green thumb” and enjoyed working around the yard. He was comfortable outdoors. Though quiet and reserved at times, everyone who met Robert enjoyed his company.

He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. We were beyond blessed to have him in our lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 14, 2024 from 3:00P – 6:00P at The Stonehouse Association located at 9701 Mill Pond Run, Toano, VA 23168.

What a great person Heaven has gained.  Bronco was just such a very good and sweet and kind person.  Such a Patriot.  Had such a big heart.  Loved animals and cared for them so gently and with such devotion.  Full of fun, if he was your friend, you could always count on him to be there.  Bronco was a boy from Phoebus and had a special bond with the people and places there.  Prayers for his wife and family and many, many friends.  How very much he will be missed.  Semper Fi Bronco.
