Karen Hicks Rhew

HAMPTON - Karen Hicks Rhew, 53, passed away Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at Sentara CarePlex following a brief illness. A native of Hampton, Karen had been a resident and a member of Buckroe Baptist Church for the past 19 years. She was a loving and devoted mother, sister and daughter who gave all of her time and energy to making people smile. As a twin, that special bond can never be replaced. 'Boot' will always be remembered. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Karen was preceded in death by her father, William J. Hicks; her sister, Patsy C. Hicks; and special cousin, David 'Sonny' Sells. She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, R. Michelle Martin of Hampton; her mother, Alda M. Hicks of Hampton; her twin brother, William Keith 'Boot' Hicks of Hampton; two stepdaughters, Faith H. Weaver and her husband, Robert, and Hope R. Lockwood and her husband, Darin, all of Hickory, N.C.; a stepson, Frederick H. Rhew Jr. and his wife, Heather, of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Shawn, Alexis, Jarrod, Kalee, Kaden and Dakota; her extended 'family' at Century Lanes and the CB Club; her 'other' daughters, Sarah and Stephani; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. It is always striking to me when we receive notification that a classmate has passed especially when it is so many years since the sad event occurred.  But I am grateful for the effort to let us know.  These classmates deserve to be remembered and so it is for Jo Karen Hicks '70 who left us in 2005.  May she rest in eternal peace.
