Fallen Warriors

Laurence Reece III - Class Of 1970

Laurence H. Reece, III, KHS Graduate ’70, passed away in August, 2004, at the age of 51.  Laurence died in his Marblehead home, in Massachusetts, after an eight month battle with liposarcoma, a type of soft tissue cancer.   As an intellectual property lawyer he specialized in trade secret disputes and high-tech litigation.  Laurence was an “aggressive and effective advocate for his clients in an intense and high-stress area of law,” said Richard Heidlage, a former partner who served as the state’s assistant attorney general.   Laurence was known among colleagues as “the ultimate multi-tasker”.  Thanks to Cheryl Tucker, KHS Graduate ’70, for providing us with this notification on April 23, 2018

I did not know Laurence but after reviewing his record of achievements, during his time at KHS, it was pretty sure this boy was headed for big things.  I am so grateful to another of the KHS '70 Classmates for sharing this with us. As sad as this news is, we appreciate knowing.  Hope Laurence is doing big things in Heaven!

RIP Laurence

Today, Alley and  I visited KHS to arrange our KHS  "Walk Back In Time" Reunion Tour.  The teachers were packing up their goods and leaving for the Summer.  No students were anywhere to be found.  The school has many, many pictures, hanging on the walls above the lockers, from past years sports events and previous Class Salutatorians/Valedictorians,   When we visited KHS to arrange the first tour, in 2014, we noticed that there were no pictures from the first KHS graduating class, 1965 or any from 1966, 1967, 1968 or 1969.   At that time we knew that we would then make a presentation, to KHS, of the 1968,1969 "Val's" and "Sal's" class pictures, when we had our reunion tour.   KHS Classes of 1965 and 1966 followed our lead and took care of their classes along with 1967. Today, as I viewed the donated pictures, I remembered that KHS 1970 does not have these pictures represented either.  I came home, searched through the 1970 annual, and was able to identify the names of those 2 students honored with this designation.  How very sad to learn that the 1970 Valedictorian, Laurence Reece III, has passed away and will not be attending this 50th Reunion Event.  I have, so far,  nothing to indicate that the KHS 1970 Salutatorian, Steve Dyer will be either. Made me feel so sad as I am sure, Larry would love to be with us.  If anyone knows anything about Steve Dyer, maybe reach out and tell him to join us!

Hey John!  Yes I think he used the word "logistics."  Certainly hope he can make it.
