Fallen Warriors

Andrea Cantrell (Donnelly) - Class Of 1969

On Friday, August 30th, 2019, our KHS Classmate ’69 and a dear friend of many, Andrea Cantrell (Donnelly), was found deceased in her home in Hampton, VA.  Apparently and quite unexpectedly, Andrea passed away from what appears to have been natural causes, although we lack much of the details of her passing.  Thankfully, Andrea was in attendance at our August, KHS 50th Reunion Event and by all accounts and observations had a grand time, especially on Saturday morning when she joined other former cheerleaders/majorettes in leading a “pep rally” in the Auditorium!   Once we receive more information concerning any services or Celebration of Life activities, we will send another message reflecting these plans.  Prayers for peace and comfort for her family and friends.  Bonnie Bridger Mittelmaier

I am still feeling overwhelmed with disbelief and sorrow over the news about my dear friend and classmate, Andrea.  Because Andrea's last name in high school started with a C and mine started with a B, we were sometimes assigned to the same homeroom at KHS.  Andrea was part of a little group made up of some of us from high school/junior high school days called Second Time Around Girls.  We spent over the last 16 plus years, together again, beach trips, Christmas Parties, Birthdays, just all sorts of fun times enjoying each other's company and sharing stories and memories and then supporting and comforting each other through difficult times.  We will continue on and I will miss Andrea.  No one can ever be replaced. Oh how sad to hear this. I was shocked. I am still sort of having a hard time accepting the reality of this. If you attended the 50th KHS Class of 1969 Reunion, you probably saw Andrea buzzing about the room, smiling, and being her usual ebullient self. Once a cheerleader, always a cheerleader.

I think she has been at every KHS Reunion that I have attended, and to realize that the August 2019 affair was her last is so sad. I spoke with her at our 50th Reunion, and took a few pics of her, never realizing that these were the last times I would ever see her.  We all miss you Andrea; rest in peace.

My condolences to her family and friends.

Andrea and another departed dear friend and classmate Jerry Quinn; we all miss you both.

I met Andrea when I first came back from France. She was a year younger but we hit it off really well. She was so sweet and fun to be around. We became fast friends. I got married and she was a bridesmaid of mine. Looking at the pictures we were so young. Her mother and her gave me a bridal shower with Tupperware as the main gift. True story: I still have and use the ironing board they gave me. I still use my Tupperware! We were in the same crowd during the 70s and 80s. We had so much fun at parties we had at our homes. We barbequed, had beer, played volleyball, laughed a lot and just enjoyed each other. We began to have children and we all got busy with our families. We lost touch. I cannot seem to wrap my head around the fact that she has passed. She was so happy at the Reunion and we talked a lot. I have already cried in disbelief and sadness. She was such a sweet soul. She always wanted to be truly loved and taken care of. I know the Angels are loving her and taking care of her. Peace and Blessings Sweetie
