HAMPTON - Grace Marie Zareo Wood, affectionately known as "Gracious, "unexpectedly departed this world on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at the age of 60, after suffering from a brief illness and surrounded by her loving family.
Grace was a lifelong resident of Hampton, a 1969 graduate of Kecoughtan High School, and a dedicated employee of Newport News Shipbuilding/Huntington Ingalls for 38 years, having just retired in August. She enjoyed family vacations, bowling, the simple pleasure of solitaire, but mainly spending time and "picking" with her family and close friends, who will greatly miss her playful personality.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Ada Zareo; and brother, Nicky Zareo.
She leaves behind her loving husband and soul-mate of 41 years, David M. Wood; her daughter, Angela Mosher and husband, Brandon; granddaughter, Bianca Noel; brother, Frank Zareo; sister, Mary Lou Smith; numerous loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. John B. Newman and the compassionate staff at Sentara Careplex Hospital, for their support during this difficult time.
A celebration of Grace's life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will be private in Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens.
