Michael Petterson - Class Of 1968

FORT WORTH, Texas - Michael Feeney Petterson, a retired U.S. Army major, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007.
Michael Feeney Petterson was born Aug. 18, 1950, in Richmond, Va., son of Dorothy Barwick and William Edward Petterson Jr. A 1968 graduate of Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Va., he earned a B.A. in history from Troy State University in Alabama.
In 1970, Michael enlisted in the Army for warrant officer candidate school. In 1975, he participated in Warrant Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a second lieutenant. He served in the first Gulf War, 2AD. He was proud of his infantry work and flying Hueys and OH58s. Michael was very patriotic and dedicated to serving his country. He retired in 1992.
Michael was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Newport News, where he was a religious educator. After moving to Texas, he joined St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ellen; daughters, Stacie and her husband, Army Sgt. 1st Class Travis Denman, of North Carolina, Robyn and her husband, Navy Gunner's Mate 1 Brendan Keil, of California and Meagan Petterson of Fort Worth; son, William Petterson of Virginia; grandchildren, Emily, Liam and Morrigan Denman, Honor, Aiden, Allyson and Evan Keil; mother, Dorothy B. Petterson of Virginia; brothers, Jeffrey B. Petterson, W. Matthew Petterson and Andrew S. Petterson; sister, Lisa Ann Hall; nephews, nieces, many extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
His memory may be honored with a gift to Freedom Alliance, 22570 Markey Court, Suite 240, Dulles, VA 20166. All proceeds fund college educations for children of deceased and severely injured service personnel.
