NEWPORT NEWS - Jeffrey Scott Stern, born at Mary Immaculate Hospital on Feb. 24, 1948, left us Feb. 22, 2009.
Jeff graduated from the first graduating class of Kecoughtan High School. He was a trumpet player in the band and later played with local bands. He was a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Greensboro College in 1972, where he was on the tennis team and then he completed advanced studies from Christopher Newport College. Following graduation, he worked as a Rehab Councilor for the State of Virginia.
His greatest passion was music. Jeff found many years of enjoyment listening to all of his favorite bands of the 60's and 70's. He loved the beach and treasured the summers that he was a lifeguard at Buckroe. His other great love was the unconditional love he received from his dog Zach and his cat Angel.

He leaves behind his mother, Patricia B. Tracy; his stepfather, Jim; sister, Carole-Sue ('Sis') Fiest; brother-in-law, Jim Fiest; niece, Wendy Strack and husband, Bill; great-nephew, Lukas Strack; uncle, Arnold Stern; cousins, Alex and Mickey Stern, Susan Sumwalt, Craig, and Danny Cegielski; and his aunt, Rita Cegielski.

Jeff was a classmate from KHS 1967. He left us on February 22, 2009. I have wonderful memories of Jeff at Buckroe Beach, where he was a lifeguard. He was always full of fun and laughter. When the jelly fish stung us girls, he was right there on the spot with the remedies to make us feel better. Lot's of times we just piled on wet sand!! My girlfriend Helen Chynoweth and I used to steal his lunch and bury it in the sand, but then to make amends we would dig it back up, present it to him with a soda from the old Breakwater Bath House. Lot's of fun times, Jeff we will miss you but never forget you!! Til we meet again,

Fond memories of Jeff! My first prom date. My little sister called him "peach head" because he had his hair cut really short before the prom! Told me he fell asleep in the barber's chair! God bless you Jeff!

Jeff was my brother, my best friend, and my heart.  We were so close that we were like twins. I wear his picture and a lock of his beautiful red hair in a locket... every day...  around my neck, and touching my heart.  I can't begin to tell you how much I love him.  I can't begin to tell you how much I miss him.
