Charles Girard

I attended Kecoughtan from 1967-1969, leaving prior to graduation to be with my family in Columbia, SC, while my father was in Saigon. I did not tactually graduate from KHS, but from a school in SC that I'm sure was glad to see me gone. I was delighted to hear that the school was eventually torn down.

After graduation from East Carolina University in 1976 (MFA), I worked for two years at a commercial gallery in Columbia, SC, one year as a visiting artist in Morehead City, NC, and two one-year teaching stints at Berea and Centre Colleges in KY. In 1981 I moved to Transylvania University in Lexington, KY, and have been here ever since as a faculty member, Art Program Director, and Fine Arts Division Chair. I continue to exhibit my studio work widely, publish, and travel whenever possible. I teach every two years at the Burren College of Art in Ireland (May 2009-2015). I've been married, divorced, in a long-term relationship, (now) remarried, and have three young children who continue to amaze me.
